What would cause an automatic transmission to lock up on a 1986 -1990 acura Legend?

I have a 1988 Acura Legend two automatic transmissions one is locked up, and the other quits pulling when it gets hot.I am pretty sure the one that stops pulling is the pump, but what caused the other to lock up?|||There is really no way to tell without opening up the transmission. One of the most common causes of this in a front wheel drive trans is the differential. They usually come apart and lock up the unit. It really could be lots of things. The one that stops pulling when it gets hot probably has lots of contamination in the pan. They usually suck stuff up until the plug off the filter almost completely then they won't pull. It could actually be low or incorrect fluid type also. There are many transmissions today that take only one type of fluid and if you use something else they will not work right. Good luck.|||try wiki pedia or yahoo web
